Asarah B'Teves: Present & Future
by Hauer, Rabbi Moshe
The Tenth of Teves is the date that commemorates both the siege around Yerushalayim that began the process of its destruction, as well as the Yom Shemu'ah, the date following the Churban that the news of the destruction reached the Jews in exile. It follows that we should use Asarah B'Teves as a Yom Shemu'ah, a day of hearing and understanding, when we should be attentive to what is going on around us and hear the messages for real change.

Bringing Classroom Learning into our Lives
by Hauer, Rabbi Moshe
In Pirkei Avos, we learn about how to conduct ourselves, following in the path of our sages who lived righteously. They did not only learn the Torah, they implemented it into their lives and glorified Hashem's name through their actions. It is important to find the proper balance between public, proper, behavior, while maintaining privacy and making sure that we are real people with depth.

Golus Yishmael
by Hauer, Rabbi Moshe
Yishmoel is a very real and powerful force that we contend with today. However, they are not part of the four goliyos that enslave Bnei Yisroel. We begin with sources in Tanach to describe the four goliyos, and then explore the approaches of different commentaries to explain what place Yishmoel has in this context. Unlike the four kingdoms who gain their strength only from Bnei Yisroel's downfall, Yishmoel is an independent power whose might does not depend on our lack of strength. When the geulah comes, the four goliyos will come to an end, but Yishmoel is not in that category and may end before the redemption, or not at all.

Moshe Rabbeinu & Rabbi Akiva - Two Dimensions of Torah & Sefiras Haomer - Switzerland
by Hauer, Rabbi Moshe
Sefiras Haomer was originally a period of glory, as we counted from Yetzias Mitzrayim up to Matan Torah. Later in history, it became a period of mourning for the deaths of the students of Rabbi Akiva. These two facets of Sefirah are apparent in the difference of the Torah taught by Moshe Rabbeinu. Moshe Rabbeinu taught Torah to Bnei Yisroel in a time of open miracles, with the presence of Hashem obvious and clear. Rabbi Akiva’s Torah was taught right after the Churban. when Hashem's presence is hidden from us. Through our learning of the Torah of Rabbi Akiva, in difficult times, Hashem should bring us to a time of the Torah of Moshe Rabbeinu, with His open glory.

Rabbi Akiva and Foundations of The Mishna
by Hauer, Rabbi Moshe
Although Rabbi Akiva did not compile the Mishnah, his teachings are considered the foundation of the Mishnah. Rabbi Akiva understood how to take the Torah of Moshe and teach it in the language of the times, which were radically different than the days of Moshe Rabbeinu when Hashem’s presence was obvious to everyone.
Rav Yitzchok Elchanan Spektor Part 1
by Hauer, Rabbi Moshe
Rav Yitzchok Elchanan Spektor was the widely respected and admired Rav of Kovne during the turmoil of the twentieth century. In this first part of the two part series, we discuss many examples of his greatness and exceptional leadership. He cared deeply and genuinely about everyone, and used his brilliant Torah knowledge in order to help any Jew who was struggling. This powerful combination of brilliance and generosity of spirit gave him the ability to unite all of the Jews, from members of the Haskalah (enlightenment) to ultra-Orthodox, an incredible accomplishment of leadership that has not been repeated.
