Tefillah - Nitzavim/Vayeilech - Teshuvah: Turning the Distance into an Asset
by Hauer, Rabbi Moshe
In
Parshas Nitzavim
, the
possuk
describes our return to
Eretz Yisroel
, stating that we will be even greater than our forefathers. There is a great power inherent in
teshuva
that enables us to come even closer than we were before, when we recognize our mistakes and return to Hashem out of love. Just like a person receives great reward for traveling to a further
shul
in order to
daven
, so to, a person who does
teshuva
properly can benefit from the distance. His relationship with Hashem can become much closer after heartfelt
teshuva
, instead of a mediocre level which removes tragic consequences of sin, but does not reinstate a close connection.
