Your G-d or G-d of Your Fathers Only? Part I (Parshas Shemos)
Speaker:   Alter, Rabbi Avrohom M.
Series: Hashkafah -Thought
Lecture Details:  When the Al-Mighty sends Moshe on his mission, to take the Bnei Yisroel out of Mitzrayim, Moshe presumes to convey Hashem's relationship to them in a somewhat compromised or limited way. Moshe chooses to use an exclusionary expression, referring to Hashem as "Hashem the G-d of your forefathers" (vs. Hashem your G-d or Hashem our G-d). This would seem to translate as they're not being as intimately connected or close with Hakadosh Baruch Hu as were their forefathers - the Avos, i.e. He is not their G-d, but rather only the G-d of Avrohom, Yitzchok and Yaakov! More disturbing, Hashem Himself seems to concede to Moshe, echoing this distance. He too charges Moshe (two pesukim later) to use this very same expression "G-d of your forefathers" - apparently limiting Hashem's connection and relationship with Klal Yisroel! Was this true? Did it change sometime later? If so, when did it change and how did that change come about?
