In the seventh aliyah of Parshas Va'eira, the last set of maakos begins. With this plague, Pharaoh recognizes that he sinned, and Hashem is righteous. This is the first time that Mitzrayim ever experienced rain, which is the connection between heaven and earth. Mitzrayim is a land of sorcery, which can only be performed while standing on the earth, as it contradicts the heavens. When Moshe raised his hands in prayer, he was a vehicle for the linking between the heavens and earth, and helped Bnei Yisroel to recognize this connection. |
