Lecture Details: |
The Torah begins with Hashem's chessed of creating the world. There are 2 different types of kindness: one is done in order to fulfill a need, while the other is done because the giver wants to give. Hashem, as the ultimate Giver, created the world in order to give, and formed Adam so that he would be able to share, in the Divine image. The word "tov" (goodness) is used for something that is in its lasting form. We can achieve true goodness for eternity by giving and sharing with others-not only to fulfill a need, but because of our strong desire to share. |
