Parshas Shoftim - Rosh Hashana & Shema I - Unity of Purpose
Speaker:   Hauer, Rabbi Moshe
Series: Weekly Parsha Shiur, 5769
Lecture Details:  When the Kohen speaks to the soldiers before battle to fortify them with trust in Hashem, he begins with the words Shema Yisrael. These words are part of the ultimate declaration of the unity of Hashem, which we express on Rosh Hashana. If a soldier is fighting for Hashem, Hashem will protect him, as he understands that Hashem is the singular force in the world. When we stand before Hashem on Rosh Hashana, we express this understanding, and recognize that everything we do is merely a sub-goal to the over-arching goal of sanctifying His name in the world.
