In his sefer Netzach Yisrael, the Maharal discusses the season of the three weeks and Tisha B'Av. This time period is during the summer months, which is a period of extreme imbalance, leading towards an unpleasant conclusion. The 5 tragedies that happened on the 17 of Tammuz are the beginning of a process that concluded with the 5 tragedies of the 9th of Av. We discuss this time period in the year that Bnei Yisrael left Mitzrayim, beginning with cheit ha'egel and concluding with cheit hameraglim, which was Bnei Yisrael's rejection of Eretz Yisrael. Had they not rejected it, our entry would have been part of the geulah, and we would not have been disconnected from Eretz Yisrael for so many years. |
