There are strong parallels between the story of Shaul's failure to destroy Amalek and Esther's charge from Mordechai to go to Achashveirosh on behalf of the Jewish People. The theme of the Maharal's sefer--Netzach Yisroel, the eternity of the Jewish People, ties these two stories together with the concept that Hashem will not allow our nation to be destroyed. Both Shaul and Esther were given the opportunity to be the messengers of Hashem to complete the task. Shaul did not accomplish this goal, but Esther stepped up to the plate, using her position to save the Jewish People while knowing that it was Hashem running the show. |
