In the seventh aliyah of Parshas Lech Lecha, we learn about Avraham's bris milah. This is not the first covenant that Hashem has made with Avraham-He has already promised him that His children would inherit Eretz Yisroel in the bris bein habesarim. After that bris, Avraham has Yishmael-but he will not be the one through whom the bris will be fulfilled. It is only after the bris milah, when Avraham perfects himself in the same realm that Adam and Noach failed in, that he will have a child with Sarah who will uphold the bris. |
