Tefillah - Vayeishev - Experiencing Joy in the Presence of Hashem
Speaker:   Hauer, Rabbi Moshe
Series: Weekly Parsha Shiur, 5767: Tefillah
Lecture Details:  After the presumed death of Yosef, Yaakov cannot properly daven to Hashem, since one can only pray in a state of joy. A person must accept whatever Hashem does with joy, whether they perceive it to be good or bad. With this outlook, every situation is part of a person’s relationship with Hashem, and it is possible to acknowledge Hashem's presence all of the time. Sadness only comes from the perception of being alone, without Hashem's guiding hand. When we say Modim, we acknowledge that Hashem is with us all of the time, and even if we cannot identify the miracle that are happening, we know that they are there through Hashem’s guiding hand.
