Sefer Devarim is unlike the three sefarim that precede it-Moshe Rabbeinu repeats the Torah in his own words, without the direct contact with Hashem that was explicit in the other three sefarim. This can be a great consolation to us, who do not see Hashem explicitly in golus. As expressed in the bracha of bentching, Hatov Vehameitiv, Hashem was, is, and will continue doing good for us. In the bracha of Modim, we focus on the continued blessing that Hashem gives us, recognizing that even when things seem hidden in golus, He has never-and will never-leave us alone. |
