23 - Shelach - Praying for Forgiveness
Speaker:   Hauer, Rabbi Moshe
Series: Women's Institute of Torah Parsha Shiur, 5770
Lecture Details:  In Parshas Shelach, Moshe Rabeinu davens for Hashem to forgive the Jewish people for the sin of the spies. We analyze the word choice used in praying for forgiveness. Selicha is fixing the problem, while mechila is used in regard to the relationship associated with the issue. With the story of the spies, the Jewish people attempt to fix the little mistake, and in doing so they exasperate the bigger picture of the relationship with Hashem. We see the importance of needing both the details and the greater context of the instruction. The terminology of machal is not used here.
