The Biblical account of creation is not intended to be a scientific record. The story, on the pshat (straightforward)level, teaches us very little about the way the world was created and can be summarized in one concise sentence: Hashem created the world in six days and on the seventh day, He rested. This class explores the idea that the Torah’s account of creation emphasizes the world’s purpose rather than how it came into being, and views man as the crown of creation, responsible for bringing the world to its ultimate purpose.
