Parshas Behar/Bechukosai - Loyalty & Consistency
Speaker:   Hauer, Rabbi Moshe
Series: Weekly Parsha Shiur, 5769
Lecture Details:  In Parshas Behar we learn about the mitzvah of yovel, when land and slaves that were sold return to their original owners. This teaches us the powerful lesson that nothing actually belongs to us, as it is all under Hashem's ownership. We have the ability to be free, as human beings have the unique quality of bechira (free choice). The word bechira shares a root with cheirus, freedom. When a person chooses to follow the Torah and serve Hashem, he sheds the binding qualities of nature, physical pressures, and societal influence. This leaves him with the empowerment of doing the right thing, and the freedom to follow only the will of Hashem.
