11 - Va'eira - Why Were We In Exile?
Speaker:   Hauer, Rabbi Moshe
Series: Women's Institute of Torah Parsha Shiur, 5771
Lecture Details:  The Gemara discusses why Avraham was punished with his children's enslavement in Mitzrayim. However, we do not view our exile in Mitzrayim simply as retribution, but rather as a formative experience that helped to develop us as a more sensitive nation. We understand what it is like to be slaves and a foreigners; therefore, many of our mitzvos call for extra understanding and compassion, especially on the holiday of Pesach.
