On a superficial level, the Ten Plagues are seemingly an expression of the Attribute of Justice (Midat Hadin) but by taking a closer look at the story we will discover that they are in fact an expression of the Attribute of Mercy. This class explores the significance of the plagues, and why Pharaoh’s heart was hardened again and again. Our sages teach that a little bit of Pharaoh exists in each of us in the form of the Yetser Hara. By studying the story in detail, we can understand the presence of evil in the world and learn how to deal with evil in our own lives.
