Lech Lecha - 2002 - The War of the Four and Five Kings
Speaker:   Kohn, Mrs. Leah
Series: Parsha
Lecture Details:  Lech Lecha is the Torah portion that deals with the life and tests of Avraham - among them the War of the Four and Five Kings. But if the war is merely to be understood in the context of one of Avraham's tests, why does the Torah recount it in such great detail? Why does it tell us the names of the kings and their countries but fails to mention why they are fighting? This class explores Avraham's involvement in this war. It also explores the nature of war, and the reason why man wages war against each other so readily if we are so afraid of it.
