After the 7th plague, Pharaoh agreed to let the Jewish people go, but G-d hardened his heart, in order to bring more signs on Egypt. The reason given for this in the Torah is: “so that you may relate to your sons, and your son’s sons that I made a mockery of Egypt. This class explores why G-d would want to bring more signs on Egypt, and why the word “mockery” is specifically used. To answer these questions, we will look at Pharaoh as a symbol of evil and his reactions to the plagues as the tactics that evil uses in order to ensnare man. Knowing evil’s tactics enables man to overcome it and gain confidence in knowing that good will eventually overcome.
