Parshas Bechukosai is specifically meant to be read before Shavuos, the time when we recommit ourselves to the acceptance of the Torah. Hashem warns us with a series of curses if we do not follow His will and go with Him with "keri". Keri is usually defined as 'temporary'-yet our commitment to Hashem needs to be constant and unwavering. We see this constancy in the giver of the written Torah—Moshe Rabbeinu, who remained close to Hashem at all times; and in the giver of the oral Torah--Rabi Akiva, who learned away from home for 24 consecutive years. In our own way, we must emulate this consistency in order to properly serve Hashem. |
