What are the qualities we envision our leaders should possess? Of course a good leader has exemplary character and integrity, is confident, enthusiastic, an effective communicator, teaches by example, inspires others to do and become what they are capable of ... and the list goes on.
But what qualities did Hashem seek out in those who would be the leaders of His children?
The model of leadership in Judaism was not the individual who would subjugate others, rather it was the individual who was willing to sacrifice for others! In a word - compassionate! The common denominator of the greatest Jewish leaders chosen by Hashem (Moshe Rabbainu, King Shaul, King David) is.... they were all compassionate shepards! |
