In the 4th aliyah of Parshas Bamidbar, we learn about the family of Levi, who were chosen to serve the Kohanim in the mishkan. Levi is characterized by commitment—even his name means connected. This deep commitment and devotion to Hashem overrides passion and love, and it is what enabled them to kill their family members who had served the egel. We must ensure that our passions and desires are rooted in strong commitment and loyalty to Hashem, and try to live with the balance that the Leviim embodied. |
