We know the Torah crowns Avrohom Avinu the "Pillar of Loving Kindness". The Torah titles him so because he selflessly dedicated his life to doing for others both physically and more importantly (and much more time consumingly) spiritually.
One might wonder, isn't there a time when one is permitted (or even obligated!) to say "enough is enough"? At what point point does one's own personal needs take precedent? What about one's losses or deficiencies, brought about as a result of endless time spent on devotion to others? Could not Avrohom have been a greater Tzadik or Torah scholar, more connected with Hakadosh Baruch Hu, had he just pulled back and limited the times he spent selflessly teaching idolaters the basic fundamentals of Torah, the ABCs of belief in One Hashem? One wonders if in some way Avrohom's spiritual greatness wasn't indeed compromised? How could it not be? |
