A man went from the house of Levi and he took a daughter of Levi. The woman conceived and gave birth to a son (Shemos2:l,2).
This is the beginning of the Torah's narrative of the origins of Moshe Rabbeinu, the greatest leader that Klal Yisroel ever had, the greatest Prophet there ever would be, the one who would be given the mission of redeeming the Bnei Yisroel from Mitzrayim.
What is very strange is the obvious omission of the names of the people in this verse, Moshe and his parents! Why does the Torah choose to omit the names of Moshe, his great father Amram (the Gadol Hador - leader of the generation at the time) and his righteous mother Yocheved? It is not until later, in next weeks Parsha (Va'ear 6:20) that Amram and Yocheved are identified as being Moshe's parents.
Why does the Torah initially choose to conceal this important piece of information about Moshe's roots? |
