In the 5th aliyah of Parshas Metzora, the laws relating to a zav are discussed. When a man becomes impure in this way, he needs to completely to become pure, but the verse describes a scenario when his hands were not washed in water. Hands are the most external part of the body, and represent tumah (ritual impurity) more than any other body part, as tumah can only be external. Taharah (ritual purity) is represented with the inner world. The more a person is connected to the inner self and privacy of his home, the more he is connected to the world or purity. |
