These last days of the year we intensify our spiritual self preparation for the day of judgment, to stand before the King of Kings, before Whom we all must pass, one by one, to be scrutinized with an All-Knowing, transparent, perception that penetrates the very depths of our souls. Yet, we might, Chas V'Shalom, find ourselves paralyzed by an overwhelming feeling of inadequacy, paralyzing our prayers by feelings of Yiyush (hopelessness).
As we say in the very first Selichos: "How can I open my mouth before You who dwells in the stretched out heavens? In what way can we pour forth our prayers?" (after all I am privy to my own lackings, as "Man knows the bitterness of his own soul").
But nothing could be further from the truth!
