The Torah tells us that Sara died as a result of hearing the news of the Akeidah. The Satan came and told the story to Sara of Avraham taking Yitzchok to the Akeidah and the shock was so great that she died.
Question: Could it be that Sara died before her time? Does not Hakadosh Baruch Hu extend, especially to the righteous, full days, full months and full years?
Additionally, the Talmud teaches us that emissaries of a mitzvah will befall no damage. Avraham, who fulfilled the mitzvah of the Akeidah, comes back to find that his wife Sara has perished as a result of the Akeidah! How could it be that his fulfillment of the mitzvah brought about her death?
Why would the Satan even go to such lengths? The challenge and test of the Akeidah has already been completed with great success, devotion and dedication of Avraham to Hashem! What benefit would he have of seemingly exacting revenge against Avraham by taking Sara's life? |
