When Moshe conveys Hashem's word, that Pharaoh free the Jewish people, Pharaoh answers "who is Hashem that I should listen to him?"!
Clearly Pharaoh is a heretic a nonbeliever.
Yet, in the beginning of the parsha Pharaoh says "let us deal wisely with him". Although simply referring to the Jewish nation as 'him', the Medrash explains (Rashi) that Pharaoh was actually alluding to "Him, the Jewish G-d"! He said "if we kill the Jewish children by the sword then Hakadosh baruch Hu will slaughter us. However if we drowned them there will be no repercussions, for Hashem swore in the times of Noach to never bring a flood to the world again"!
A true believer in The Creator!
And what about us? Are we believers, true believers? Or do our actions at times mirror the seeming inconsistencies of Pharaohs actions? |
