The first aliyah (section) of Parshas Emor speaks about the instruction to the kohen, prohibiting him from becoming impure from a corpse. The job of the kohanim was to preside over the temple which is the place of connection in which man can reach up to the heavens. The expression of attachment to Hashem means life because Hashem is forever and is the quintessential life. In the house of Hashem, the source of our vitality, there is only life. The temple was the place where physicality was transformed to something eternal and immortal through the service of Hashem. Our goal is to look at the physical world and uplift everything to something spiritual, everlasting, and alive.
