In the sixth aliyah of Parshas Devarim, Moshe recounts the story of the war with Sichon and Og. According to Chazal, Og had been around since the time of the mabul, but could not be destroyed until Moshe Rabbeinu fought against him. Og, a giant, symbolized the power that the infusion of Hashem can give into a human being as a mere mortal. Conversely, Moshe represented the power of a human being to transcend and become closer to the spiritual. This transcendent aspect of Moshe made him the proper one to defeat Og, who is characterized with the opposite quality. |
