Lecture Details: |
In the sixth aliyah of Parshas Matos, Gad and Reuven choose to live on the East Bank of the Yarden, outside of Eretz Yisroel. In the sixth aliyah of Parshas Masei, the cities of refuge for accidental murders are discussed, 3 for the East Bank of the Yarden, and 3 on the west. Although this is disproportionate according to population, it is according to the lack of brotherhood and communal responsibility that Gad and Reuven felt toward their brothers. Therefore, half of Shevet Menashe was placed with them, as a bridge, to reinforce the idea of brotherhood that Yosef personified. |
