The 7th aliyah (section) of Parshas Metzora speaks about the impurity of a woman and how she counts seven days to become pure. This counting is paralleled to the counting of the Jews who left Egypt. In Egypt they were in the 49th level of impurity and then they had a bris milah and counted 7 weeks until they were pure to receive the Torah and create the ultimate connection. Egypt is a self centered place and by having the bris milah, they showed commitment which is the foundation for being there for others and being able to build together. The removal of the impurity of Egypt is that which facilitates a strong and real relationship. |
