In the beginning of a series focused on tefillah, we look at two instances in Parshas Bereishis that are related to tefillah. Before Adam davened, the rain did not fall to allow the produce to grow. Tefillah is an act that relinks the heaven and earth, specifically through the outpouring of rain that will come. Kayin and Hevel gave offerings to Hashem, but only Hevel understood that he was connected from this earth to Hashem, who was ready to accept his offering. These 2 stories remind us of that when we daven we are not merely praying to Hashem in the heavens, but are standing directly before Him, linking Heaven and Earth. |
