G-d appointed Avraham to his role as the father of the Jewish people without making any formal announcements of any kind, but rather simply by assigning him to the “test” of leaving his homeland and moving to the land of Israel. The Torah does not formally introduce Avraham either. It does not describe his qualities, as it had with Noach, nor the many accomplishments of the first 75 years of his life. This class will explore why G-d chose to appoint Avraham in this way, and describes the nature of the mission that would be assigned to him and the Jewish nation.
