The 2nd aliyah (section) of Parshas Yisro is dedicated to the advice that Yisro gave to Moshe. Yisro told Moshe that he would become worn out from judging the people, as constantly being involved in the antagonistic setting of misphat (judgement) is very stressful. When only one person is carrying this role, the tension becomes very great. Yisro suggested appointing many judges who could lighten this burden, ensuring that Moshe would not become worn out, but could rather focus on explaining the word of Hashem, and on davening to Him on behalf of the people. |
