There are many different aspects of the sin of Nadav and Avihu that caused their deaths. One aspect that Chazal speak about is that they decided a halacha before their teacher Moshe, thus stepping out of the boundaries of mesorah. However, it seems that Elazar and Isamar did the same thing later on, when they decided to burn the chatas (sin offering) rather than eat it. There is a balance to both of these elements, and a value when done in the proper framework: on the one hand, parents teaching to children, and on the other, children teaching parents. |
