When Bnei Yisroel cried and complained that they could not enter into Eretz Yisroel, they were worried for the sake of their children. However, they were taking too much responsibility into their own hand, and forgot to trust in Hashem who had carried them like a father carries his children up until this point. Bnei Yisroel rejected the values of the Avos who were promised Eretz Yisroel, and therefore, that generation could not enter the land. Rather, Hashem took their children into the land, continuing to carry them as a father carries a child. |
