Although Shem knew about Hashem and is considered a righteous person, we do not consider him as one of our forefathers, like Avraham. There is a fundamental difference between the emunah of Avraham and the belief of Shem. Shem lived in a time where people served the stars because of the greatness that Hashem instilled within them. However, Avraham believed that Hashem is first and only, and no belief of anything else can interfere with our belief and relationship with Him. |
