The special coat that Yosef received from Yaakov signifies many deep things that require discussion. This was the garment that Adam was clothed in after he sinned, and subsequently passed on to Nimrod and Esav, who were very successful hunters. This garment is the special cloak of the firstborn, whose rights Yosef received after Reuven forfeited them. Yosef inherited the material blessings that Yaakov took from Esav. These brachos were not fulfilled through Yaakov, who was completely connected to the spiritual world-rather, it was through Yosef that the material blessings would come about, enabling him to support his family in times of famine. |
