In the third aliyah (section) of Parshas Yisro, Moshe carries out Yisro's advice of appointing judges. Although this was very practical advice, it created a distance between Bnei Yisroel and Moshe. There is a higher level of understanding and acceptance as a result of seeing, rather than just hearing. Yisro merely heard about what Hashem did for Bnei Yisroel, and although he recognized Hashem, he did not come to the same level of understanding and acceptance as Bnei Yisroel, who saw Hashem at Krias Yam Suf and Matan Torah. |
