Clothing plays an important role in Beraishis, in the Mishkan (temple), and in the Purim story. Clothing restores the heavenly soul in man which was lost in the sin of Adam in Gan Eden and lifts man above animals. Animals walk around unclothed without shame while man has the potential to be higher. The quintessential man of being higher is the Kohen Gadol (high priest) with his holy clothing. Our physical desires can lead us to become like an animal! The story of Purim is not only about saying we are not like animals but saying we are like people with Hashem on top of us and then Hashem will be in us. |
