Lecture Details: |
Tefillah as we know it took root with the end of korbanos (offerings). The first bracha of the requests in the weekday Shemoneh Esrei is the request for da'as (knowledge). That is what distinguishes and elevates us from the animals, although our bodies are very similar. When a person offers a korban, it underscores the difference between man and animal, emphasizing that we want all of our physical endeavors to be focused on and integrated with the service of Hashem. The same applies when we daven for da'as-we want to elevate all of the mundane things we will ask for and include them in the service of Hashem, elevating our lives to be completely focused on this purpose and goal. |
